“Invisalign, The Clear Alternative to Braces!”
Do you get embarrassed or self-conscious about your crooked teeth? Would you like to straighten your teeth without metal braces? Invisalign at Sachar Dental NYC
Invisalign technology
Invisalign uses cutting edge three-dimensional computer imaging software to fabricate custom made aligners to straighten your teeth. Once our cosmetic dentists come up with your treatment plan, the Invisalign technology takes over. This computer software is able to plan your entire treatment from start to finish as directed by our dentists.
Founded in 1997, Align Technology Incorporated has been straightening teeth for over two decades. They have over 900 patents, and to date, they have treated over 8 million patients. You can trust your smile to the Invisalign technology, expertise and experience.
A modern way to straighten teeth
No longer do you need metal braces that are embarrassing and unsightly to straighten your teeth. With Invisalign you will use clear trays called aligners that are virtually invisible. They are made out of a clear plastic-like material that is extremely effective in repositioning your teeth in just a few months.
Invisalign can be used by adults and teenagers for crooked teeth, gapped teeth and crowded teeth. Invisalign retainers are a safe, and non-embarrassing way to achieve a beautiful smile with properly aligned teeth.
Health Benefits of Invisalign
Left untreated, an improperly aligned bite can lead to gum disease, periodontal disease and other health issues. It can also lead to TMJ pain, jaw pain and headaches. Invisalign may be able to properly align the bite to prevent many of these problems.
Custom treatment for your unique smile
Invisalign clear aligners are custom made based on a mold of your teeth. Every Invisalign treatment is unique for every patient. Most patients wear aligners for 6-18 months and rarely more depending on the severity of the teeth misalignment. Most patients will start using a new aligner every two weeks to move your teeth very gradually.
What are the primary benefits of Invisalign?
- Clear, virtually invisible aligners
- No metal in the mouth
- Safe and effective treatments
- Fast treatment
- Removable aligners for better oral hygiene
- Removable aligners for easier mealtimes
- Continued ability to floss and brush
- Comfortable treatment option
- Painless treatment option
- Less maintenance then traditional braces
- Less visits to your dentist
How does Invisalign work?
The Invisalign teeth straightening system uses custom-made aligners that are made from a mold of your teeth. The first step is taking X-rays, photographs and a mold of your mouth to determine your starting point. Our Invisalign Certified cosmetic dentists will then plan a treatment regimen that will slowly guide your teeth into their new positions. Every treatment plan is uniquely prepared by our expert cosmetic dentists for each patient. Our Invisalign Certified cosmetic dentists will discuss your goals with you, and make recommendations for their goals in order to achieve your perfect smile.
The Invisalign 3-D imaging software will also perform a smile and bite analysis while mapping out the course of your treatment. You can instantly view the position of your teeth at every step along the way and what to expect at each time interval.
Once a mold of the mouth is taken, we use our three-dimensional imaging software to plan your new smile. We are able to see a model of your teeth at every step along the way. You will receive clear plastic aligners that are switched approximately every two weeks. Each one of these clear aligners are designed to carefully move your teeth by providing the exact amount of force right in the exact place necessary. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next aligner in series. With Invisalign, we are able to control which teeth move and the timing of their movement. With each different aligner, only certain teeth allowed to move. Part of the unique plan that our expert cosmetic dentists creates takes into consideration the timing of each tooth they are moving. Changing aligners every two weeks is repeated until the conclusion of your treatment and your teeth are in the desired positions.
We recommend that you wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day. You take them out for brushing, flossing, eating and drinking.
Every few weeks we have you return to our office to monitor your progress. Depending on your treatment plan, we may give you multiple trays and have you change them every two weeks on your own between appointments. For the more complex cases, we may have you come in more often to assess how your treatment is going, and possibly refine your treatment plan and add a mid-course correction.
Some patients may require filing of the teeth to make room for their new alignment. This is particularly true for patient that have crowding of the teeth. At Sachar Dental NYC, our philosophy is to perform the most conservative options as possible and to maintain as much of the natural teeth as possible. It is our practice to avoid taking shortcuts by filing more of the teeth, which makes it easier to move the teeth into alignment, but creates unsightly narrow teeth that do not function as well. We strongly believe in maintaining as much of your natural tooth as possible and would rather do this procedure correctly instead of taking shortcuts to make your treatment easier. That way, our results are ultimately much better.
What are Invisalign aligners made of?
Invisalign clear aligners made of medical grade, high molecular weight, polyurethane resin materials that are BPA-free. They are FDA approved since 1998 and are completely safe.
Who is a good candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment is used for teenagers and adults. It is indicated for any patients that wants to have straighter teeth without having to endure metal braces, however, Invisalign does have his limitations. Invisalign does not completely replace traditional braces for everyone. We recommend coming in for a consultation to find out if Invisalign will help with the alignment of your teeth. We treat patients with crooked teeth, gaps in the teeth and crowded teeth. Invisalign treatment can be performed on the top teeth, bottoms teeth or both.
When you come in for a consultation for Invisalign, our expert Invisalign Certified cosmetic dentists will discuss with you your teeth straightening goals and examine you to determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign.
What problems does Invisalign treat?
Can Invisalign correct my crooked teeth if I didn't wear my retainer after having my braces and my teeth have shifted?
At Sachar Dental NYC, we have treated many patients in this exact circumstance. This is called orthodontic relapse, and Invisalign is an excellent solution.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Most patients will use Invisalign for 6-18 months and rarely longer more severe misalignment.
How many hours a day should I wear my Invisalign aligners?
We recommend wearing your Invisalign aligners for 20-22 hours per day and only take them out when you are flossing, brushing, drinking or eating.
How often will I come in for appointments during my Invisalign treatment?
We will schedule you for return visits periodically. The length of time between these visits depends on the exact treatment plan that we have prescribed. During these visits, we will assess how your treatment is going and how your teeth are moving. Sometimes, we will perform a mid-course correction or refinement, as we observe the movement of your teeth. We may take new molds, refine your treatment plan and adjust your aligners. Sometimes, we will put attachments on certain teeth that allow the aligners to apply the perfect amount of force to gently push these teeth into the proper alignment. They fit right into your aligners so they are barely noticeable.
Living with Invisalign aligners
Living with Invisalign treatment is much easier than traditional metal braces. You are able to take out your aligners when you eat, drink, brush and floss. Unlike traditional braces, thanks to the removable nature of the aligners, there are no restrictions on what you can eat or drink.
For a majority of patients, Invisalign treatment will be pain-free and only have small amount of temporary discomfort every few days at beginning of each new aligner. Typically, patients describe a feeling of pressure and not pain. Most patients get used to each new aligner within a couple of days. Occasionally, some patients will inform us that they feel like their teeth are slightly loose when they remove their aligners. This is a common occurrence and results from your gums reforming around the new alignment of the teeth.
What is the best way to clean my Invisalign aligners?
We recommend cleaning your invisalign aligners whenever you take them out by brushing them and rinsing them and water.
What are the differences between Invisalign and traditional metal braces?
Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign uses a removable aligner that works to move the teeth. Invisalign also allows one to brush and floss regularly while traditional braces do not. A great advantage of Invisalign over traditional metal braces is the ability to remove them when one eats. This results in having no food limitations and improved oral hygiene. With Invisalign, there is also less trips to your dentist for adjustments such as wire adjustments with traditional braces. Invisalign aligners are also clear and virtually invisible. Invisalign aligners are also easier on the gums and lips with no sharp edges like wire braces.
Invisalign vs Smile Direct Club?
While Smile Direct Club may move your teeth and save you some money, there are many downsides to going that route. Our expert dentists have experience when it comes to realigning your teeth. While realigning your smile, we take into account many factors including your bite alignment, the load of your bite, your TMJ joint, and the function of your jaw muscles. This requires close ongoing monitoring and evaluation of your treatment along its course. Mid treatment refinement may be indicated when we notice that your teeth and not moving as we expected originally. Throughout the course of your treatment, we monitor the alignment of your bite to ensure that the upper and lower teeth align properly to avoid potential problems.
Unfortunately, with Smile Direct Club this type attention to detail throughout the course of your treatment is nonexistent. There is no one to intervene should your treatment not be going as planned. Potentially, without proper monitoring and plan adjustments, there can be complications and damage done to your teeth.
We have seen patients that have come to us in the middle of their Smile Direct Club treatment with problems with the TMJ, bite alignment and other problems.
Another advantage of Invisalign over Smile Direct Club is the Invisalign “attachments”. These attachments are small button-like devices that we are able to attach to certain teeth that gives the Invisalign aligner something to grab onto in order to allow for more precise and predictable movements. Smile Direct Club does not have these attachments which can lead to less predictable movements.
Unfortunately, we have seen complications with Smile Direct Club where patients have come into our office in order to try to correct these problems. Some examples are patients that have had chipped teeth due to a misaligned bite with the top and bottom teeth hitting together causing damage. These patients have gone on to bonding teeth or getting veneers to correct for these problems. Also, we have had patients that needed to start Invisalign treatment all over again after completing treatment with Smile Direct Club.
Will I need a retainer after my Invisalign treatment?
Yes. In order to prevent relapse and to maintain your new alignment, it is necessary to wear a retainer at night.
